Green Economy Innovation Hub launched in Tri-State Region

Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategy (SEVEDS) launched the first of four milestone events to develop an industry cluster centered around the green economy assets based in Windham and Bennington County VT, Cheshire County NH and Franklin County MA. ViTAL Economy was chosen to facilitate this new industry cluster and to develop a four county multi-state economic model that for the first time will enable the region to be measured as a regional economy. VE was chosen to lead this effort based on their decades of experience in developing asset based and opportunity driven industry clusters in rural regional economies throughout North America. The SEVEDS’s 2014 nationally recognized CEDS identified green economy assets as the most important assets across the region that could be leveraged to replace the 600+ high wage jobs being lost in this four county region as a result of the potential closure of Vermont Yankee. Funding for the Green Economy Innovation Hub cluster development process is provided by a grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, which is matched from Entergy Funds provided to the the State of Vermont for investment in Windham County, VT to develop strategies that create and attract new jobs and businesses  to replace and exceed those jobs lost in the closure of Vermont Yankee.
